Active Westlake Kiwanis Service Projects
We are currently serving Westlake, Ohio with the following active projects:
Pancake Breakfast
Our major source of income for community funds is from our Biannual Pancake Breakfasts held in the Westlake High School Cafeteria. Members sell tickets to individuals and corporate sponsors to fund the breakfast, which is held in the Fall and Spring of each year. During the Spring, Westlake Kiwanis partners with Hermes to host a run / walk and participants are given the option during the application to purchase a ticket to the pancake breakfast.
Memorial Day Parade
Westlake Kiwanis organizes and sponsors the Westlake Memorial Day Parade and military ceremony. The parade runs from St. Peter & George Coptic Church along Hilliard Blvd and ends at Clague Park. We coordinate with participants who wish to participate in the parade and after the parade, Kiwanis hosts a ceremony where, we as a community, remember Westlake residents who gave their lives in the service of their country. RePlay for Kids
Our Club partners with RePlay For Kids, a local non-profit. The mission of RePlay for Kids is to increase the availability of toys and assistive devices for children with disabilities. We repair, adapt and distribute toys and assistive devices free of charge. In so doing, we strive to raise awareness and increase the number and variety of toys and devices available to the children who need them. | Get More Information
Food Distribution: Westlake Community Center
Westlake Kiwanis assists the Westlake Community Center with distributing food who need it during Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. | Get More Information
Flower Box
Along Hilliard Boulevard in Westlake, you will find more than 220 flower boxes sponsored and planted by residents of the City of Westlake. Many of these flower boxes have been tended to by the same families spanning multiple decades! Westlake sponsors one of these flower boxes, which is near Clague Park. These boxes are 4’ x 8’ in size. Adopt A Family
A Family who is less fortunate is selected during Christmas to receive gifts. The Builders Club gets together and goes to a store and they spend their own money to support the family.
Westlake Fire Department Smoke Detector Program
In an effort to assist the Westlake community, the Fire Department offers the Smoke Detector Program in conjunction with Community Services Department’ Outreach Coordinator to identify and place smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in Westlake households that cannot afford them. Meals on Wheels
The club donates funds and assists with delivery of meals, which are prepared by University Hospital’s St John’s Medical Center, to local elderly residents who are unable to shop or cook for themselves. We do this every Thanksgiving and Christmas. | Get More Information
Social Activities
Westlake Kiwanis regularly does social activities when not busy in the community. Typical get-togethers have included golf outings, steak roast, interclub meetings with other Kiwanis clubs in the Greater Cleveland area, and holiday parties
Past Westlake Kiwanis Service Projects
Here are some past service projects that we’ve completed for the community:
Westlake Invitational Soccer Tournament
On Memorial Day weekend we partnered with Olmsted Falls Kiwanis to serve food and drinks to the spectators and athletes who attend this event.
Westlake Police K9 Fund
Westlake Kiwanis supported the Westlake Police K9 Unit by donating funds to purchase K-9 protective vests, other equipment, and training. We also hosted family friendly fundraisers where kids can meet and greet with the K-9’s and their handlers.
Safety Town Bike Helmets
Donate funds to provide bicycling helmets for Westlake Children.
Westlake Relays
Westlake Kiwanis sponsored and assisted with a spring time track and field competition at Westlake High School’s track and field stadium.
Special Olympics
Westlake Kiwanis sponsored a Special Olympics event which was held every spring at Westlake High School’s track and field stadium for Northeast Ohio individuals with developmental disabilities.
